Showing the way
Orientation – showing the way
Orientation design is a human-centred approach, to aid the navigation of a building or space. This has many levels and stages – from views afar to experience at close quarters – the development of a signal or signage system which connects the needs of a user with the logic of the architecture. A system which also reflects the qualities of the building or business are particularly successful – through the use of quality materials, craftmenship, lighting-design and interactivity or mobile devices.
Storytelling – showing who you are
Telling the visitor or viewer who you are, or who you are not is also an important tool of orientation. This can manifest in a unique floorplan, graphic murals, choice of colour, furniture, lighting and overall experience.
